The Peter Uba Foundation

The eradication of poverty is one of the greatest challenges facing the world today and is a priority for The Peter Uba Foundation. “Forecasts suggest that without significant shifts in policy, extreme poverty will still be in the double digits in sub-Saharan Africa by 2030. About 79 percent of the world's poor live in rural areas. The poverty rate in rural areas is 17.2 percent—more than three times higher than in urban areas (5.3 percent). Close to half (46 percent) of extremely poor people are children under 14 years of age” (United Nations, Stats). Within certain regions with vulnerable populations, one out of 5 children live in poverty, and the negative effects of poverty and deprivation in the early years have ramifications that can last a lifetime. Poverty has many dimensions, but its causes include unemployment, social exclusion, and the high vulnerability of certain populations to disasters, diseases, and other phenomena which prevent them from being productive. Having a job does not guarantee exit from poverty. As a matter of fact, many employed workers and their families live in poverty around the world. The Peter Uba Foundation utilizes its networks, volunteers, collaborators, partners, and program services from our other initiatives to work with our vulnerable populations identified as facing the pressing issue of poverty. We also advocate for social protection for them through the civil societies and local NGOs we partner with within the communities we serve to unlock social protections within the overlooked communities and populations.

Services

Giving women farmers more resources could bring the number of hungry people in the world down by 100-150 million people. World Food Programme Our donations for our Alleviate Poverty Through Outreach (APTO) Program are ongoing as we continue to provide outreach services to vulnerable populations globally. Through our APTO Program, we: a) Deliver Containers/Truckloads of food including rice, beans, pasta, sugar, cooking oil, bathing soap, and other items identified by our volunteers on the ground as needed by our vulnerable populations who are unable to feed their children or themselves healthy meals daily and who lack basic necessities. b) We work with our partners and volunteers on the ground to identify specific areas to access well water and develop purification systems where necessary.                 Through this program, we aim to directly improve the livelihood of our targeted communities, families, and individuals living in poverty. We provide interventions that contribute to lasting improvement in the circumstances of the populations we serve. We work with the women in the different communities we serve to empower them to learn more about sustainable livelihood and advocate for their voices.     We ensure that equality and inclusivity are promoted in every program we introduce to the community. The needs of each community will be different so we work with our volunteers on the ground to address the issues presented by each community.
